What this service is
Official Name Search checks business-name availability against state business registries, federal trademark filings, and domain registrars, and can generate name ideas. It is an informational research tool.
What it is not
- Not legal advice. Results are informational. Name availability, trademark clearance, and filing requirements are governed by state and federal law — confirm with the relevant official registry before filing, and consult a professional for legal questions.
- Not a guarantee. Registries change constantly and data sources can lag or err. A "Clear" result is a strong signal, not a promise that a name is registrable, and availability can change at any moment.
- Not a government service. We are privately operated and not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any Secretary of State office or government agency. Links marked official lead to government sources.
Acceptable use
The service is for individual, human use. Automated querying, scraping, bulk extraction, probing of non-public endpoints, and rate-limit evasion are prohibited and result in blocking. Search engines and AI assistants may crawl our public informational pages per our robots.txt.

Some outbound links lead to our own or partner services, from which we may benefit commercially (see our Privacy Policy). Partner offerings are their own products, on their own terms.
Liability
The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for decisions made in reliance on results, including filings, branding, or purchases based on a name's reported availability.
